Fine Art Landscape Photography
About Chris Robisch

Through the practice of visualization (a concept conceived initially by Ansel Adams and practiced beautifully by Mr. Adams, Ed Weston, and others), Chris is able to see the potential of an expressive image in the landscape. Projecting the fine art image in his mind before reaching for the camera is a vital tool in the process. Photographically, Chris sees the scenic landscape as a world composed of the natural elements of graphic design. He concentrates on patterns, textures, shapes, hues, and flow. He prefers color photography to convey his thoughts, but appreciates the depth and complexity of black & white images.

Chris enjoys grand scenes but seeks frames of emotion. He is especially inspired by compositions that allow him to "burn" light onto film slowly. His images have been described as graceful, mysterious, soft, peaceful, majestic, warm, and powerful. "I try to manipulate the natural color and light that I see into a spirit that flows out of the final image. Actually, I know that I have accomplished that task if

I find that one is watching the image instead of just looking at it. Everything is about light".

Once Chris has visualized an expressive image, his thoughts turn to photographic technical precision. His process of effectively manipulating natural light onto film goes beyond visualization and relies on strong depth of field, sharp focus, and intense texture to complete the image desired. High quality optics, clarifying filters, and the reliability of Canon bodies and Fuji film are the tools he uses in the field.

Chris dedicates all of his photographic time to capturing the essence and beauty of the Rocky Mountains and the American West. He does not use "color-adding" filters. His images are "pure" photography of the fine art variety; expressing his artistic vision at the scene through light manipulation onto film.

In 1999, with his artistic values in tow, Chris relocated to Lander, Wyoming at the steps of the Wind River Mountains to further his photographic career. He continues to backpack, hike, snowshoe, ski, and travel throughout the mountains and the American West to capture images on a regular basis. Through no formal training, only research and experimentation, Chris has found a method to pursue his artistic visions.
