Wind River Mountains in Wyoming - August, 1991 An author once described weather patterns in the Winds this way: "It's never really summer in these mountains; winter just goes to sleep for a while." On my first backpacking trip to the Winds, the weather was warm and sunny until we arrived at Pipestone Lakes. Once we arrived, a long-hanging hail storm greeted us followed by cool brisk winds, rain, and snow for three days. This image was taken to record the powerful impression the mountains made upon me during that first visit. |
