FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 15, 2000 - Lander, Wyoming - Scenic Prints announced today that it has been selected as a finalist in an international annual photography contest. Photographers' Forum magazine, published by Serbin Communications, is hosting the 20th Annual Spring Photography Contest. The contest is sponsored by Canon. A total of 27,000 entries were received and 5% of those were selected as finalists. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place winners, along with 100 honorable mentions, in color and black & white photography will be announced by August 31, 2000. The contest accepted entries relating to all styles of photography. All finalists' images will appear in the "Best of Photography" annual also published by Serbin. "I am very pleased that my work has been recognized by an established and highly-esteemed publication", stated Scenic Prints owner and photographer Chris Robisch. "I'm proud to be under consideration for any further recognition". Scenic Prints, specializing in fine art landscape photography of Wyoming, the Rocky Mountains, and the West, was established in 1999. Color and black & white images are produced through "old-fashioned" means. "Digital printmaking can certainly be described as an art in its own right", Robisch said. "However, images created with a digital camera or a picture altered/enhanced in a computer is not photography, in my opinion - that's printmaking. Everything I create is solely by light manipulation through the lens. The success of image production rests with my abilities as a photographer; not the computer". While Scenic Prints as a business is still quite young and not yet widely known, there are definitive rumblings of future success. In addition to the recent critical acclaim, Scenic Prints has seen sales through its website and through direct sales efforts. "I think the site is good, but there are so many improvements I have planned", Robisch stated. "It takes a lot of effort to keep web surfers interested. A year from now, I hope people will be quite amazed". "I have generated sales through the site and I expect the activity to increase slowly but steadily. Selling art on the Internet is still a very difficult task; it has not caught up to other markets such as clothes and books. Some day that will change and I want to make sure I'm in front of the pack when it does. For now, it's a great way for designers, other potential commercial clients, as well as retail customers to see the portfolio with ease. Customers have really appreciated that convenience". Scenic Prints also announced today that Wyoming.com, the largest Internet service provider in Wyoming, has recently ordered a number of limited-edition prints. "The composition and balance that Chris uses literally ignites the photos' surface with movement", Wyoming.com's Heather Becker stated. Wyoming.com is in the final stages of renovating its corporate headquarters and Becker is leading that effort. "Chris' interpretations of grand landscapes and nature's intricate designs comprise his images and really grabbed my attention. The essence of the work is perceived through the eyes of the audience without ambiguity", Becker concluded. Robisch's plans for Scenic Prints not only includes continued contact with designers and collectors throughout the region, but continuing a strong emphasis on producing high-quality and enjoyable images for the home and office environment. His portfolio includes scenics of the Tetons, Yellowstone, the Red Desert, the Wind River Mountains, and Utah's red rock and canyon country. Of course, his plans always include increasing his portfolio. On the Web, Scenic Prints offers every customer the opportunity to view images alone and with mats and frames. Not many photographers offer this service; if at all. All orders made through the website are through a secure server using credit cards. "Many people don't realize that computers really can't do an image justice", Robisch reminds us. "The sharpness, color, and detail on a monitor is only about 80% of the actual image. I have customers who never laid eyes on the actual image until after they have seen the on-line version and placed an order through the website". "Upon receipt of the actual framed work, they have been surprised how much better the real thing looks on their wall compared to their computer. If you like what you see on-line, I have no doubt that you'll really like the actual image". Scenic Prints is based in Lander, Wyoming and sells to individuals as well as commercial concerns.
